Israel came to a halt Sunday as citizens across the country staged mass demonstrations in solidarity with the families of hostages still held in Gaza. Businesses, universities, local municipalities, and public institutions shut down in support of the nationwide call for action.
The day’s events included marches, speeches, and rallies, culminating in a large demonstration at 8 p.m. in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. The protests reflect growing public pressure on the government to secure a deal for the captives’ release.
Among those present was Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who visited Hostage Square and met with families of those held in Gaza. She spoke with Lishay Miran-Lavi, wife of hostage Omri Miran, who was abducted from Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7, leaving behind his wife and two daughters. Gadot was also seen embracing Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, alongside captivity survivor Ilana Gritzewsky, Matan’s partner.
Earlier in the day, demonstrations briefly paused after Israeli defense systems detected a missile launched from Yemen by the Houthis. No injuries were reported, and protests quickly resumed.
The day of action underscores the mounting frustration of families and supporters who say time is running out for the hostages and that immediate government action is needed.
