Israeli President Isaac Herzog will depart for the Vatican on Thursday, September 4, 2025 for a one-day visit at the invitation of the Holy See, his office announced.
During his time in Rome, Herzog is scheduled to tour the Vatican Library and meet with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin before holding a private discussion with Pope Leo XIV.
The agenda for the talks is expected to center on three key issues: the urgent effort to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza, international cooperation to combat rising antisemitism, and measures to ensure the protection of Christian communities across the Middle East.
This visit marks the continuation of Herzog’s dialogue with Pope Leo XIV, whom he previously met during the pontiff’s inauguration in May. The meeting underscores the significance of Israel-Vatican relations at a moment of regional instability and humanitarian concern.
