On Tuesday night, Hussein Ibrahim Makki, a top Hezbollah field commander, was killed by an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon. Makki, a senior figure in Hezbollah’s Southern Front unit and former commander of its coastal division, was targeted near Tyre. In response, Hezbollah launched approximately 60 rockets at an air traffic control base on Mount Meron in northern Israel, causing minor damage but no injuries.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Makki had orchestrated numerous attacks against Israel. Hezbollah did not specify his role but confirmed his death, referring to him as being killed “on the road to Jerusalem.” This incident follows a series of confrontations, with Hezbollah frequently attacking Israeli positions along the Lebanon-Israel border. Since October 8, these skirmishes have resulted in significant casualties on both sides.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks following Makki’s death, which targeted Mount Meron and the Biranit army base. The IDF intercepted several rockets, minimizing the damage. Additionally, the IDF reported downing two drones heading toward Israeli territory, launched by Iran-backed groups in Iraq, amid the ongoing conflict.
The IDF later announced the death of a soldier who was killed in a Hezbollah mortar and missile attack on an army position near the northern community of Malkia Tuesday.
He is named as 20-year-old Staff Sgt. Haim Sabach, of the Border Defense Corps’ 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit, from Holon.
According to the IDF, one other soldier was lightly injured in the attack.
May his memory be a blessing.
