The IDF stated a missile launched from Yemen was successfully intercepted by the “Arrow” Aerial Defense System throughout the central region of Israel. Sirens and explosions were heard following the interception and falling shrapnel.
The interception occurred at a very high altitude, potentially in space, leading to debris scattering over a vast area. This widespread dispersion set off alarms in various locations throughout central Israel, despite only a single missile being involved. This accounts for the broad alert activation across several cities.
The missile launch from Yemen followed the assassination of Muhammad Hossein Sarur, Hezbollah’s air unit commander. Sarur had been operating in Yemen as an adviser to the Houthis, helping them develop their air capabilities. He was called back to Lebanon just days ago to assist Hezbollah following the onset of Israeli airstrikes.
In response to his assassination, the Houthis launched a missile as an act of revenge.
Hezbollah, who posthumously honored Sarur as a “Commander Martyr,” is also expected to respond harshly to his killing. Sarur is the sixth person given this title to be eliminated since the war began.
Muhammad Hossein Sarur was the drone unit chief, operating under Hezbollah’s “Air Force.” This unit is responsible for the deployment and operation of various types of aircraft, including cruise missiles, ground-to-air missiles, and UAVs. He was in charge of these crucial assets, which had been used in previous attacks on Israel.
The IDF has reported striking about 220 Hezbollah terrorist targets across Lebanon Thursday. Fighter jets from the Air Force, directed by the Northern Command, conducted the attacks over the last 24 hours.
Among the targets hit were military buildings, rocket launchers that had fired at Israeli territory, Hezbollah fighters, and ammunition warehouses located in southern and deeper areas of Lebanon.
The IDF continues to focus on degrading Hezbollah’s capabilities and military infrastructure as part of its ongoing campaign against the terror organization.
Rambam hospital announces that a 48-year-old man, a resident of Kfar Manda, was hit by shrapnel from rocket fire during an earlier barrage. He arrived conscious, and is currently undergoing evaluation and imaging in Rambam’s shock unit.
