A suspected terrorist in Beersheba attacked two Israelis in the Beer Sheva Central Bus Station Sunday morning. It was a bustling time at the transportation hub. The attacker, was identified as a Bedouin resident of the Israeli city of Rahat. He is also a bus driver. The 28-year-old stabbed two soldiers before being shot dead by another soldier at the scene.
According to reports, the terrorist boarded a bus from Rahat at 7:40 a.m. without his cellphone. At 8:35 a.m., he carried out the attack, using a knife as his weapon. Quick action by an off-duty border policeman, Shalev, led to the neutralization of the attacker. Shalev reported he tackled the man and got the knife out of his hands while soldiers opened fire.
The incident left one soldier, a 20-year-old officer, with moderate stab wounds and left another with light injuries. Both were swiftly evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in stable condition. A bus driver received treatment for a panic attack amidst the chaos.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion, with some taking refuge in nearby establishments to escape the turmoil.
The man had a criminal record and was reportedly due to serve a sentence for drug-related offenses. He was apprehended and later pronounced dead at a medical center.
Authorities are conducting thorough searches in the area to ensure there are no further threats. Despite speculations about the attack having a nationalistic motive, the man’s family deny such claims, asserting that they have no basis.
