Saturday evening Hamas released a video featuring two hostages – 64-year-old Keith Siegel and 47-year-old Omri Miran. Experts suggest this is meant to add pressure on the Israeli government to approve a truce and hostage release deal that is under negotation. This marks the second such clip in three days, showcasing signs of life from the captives. The previous clip showed 23-year-old Hersh Goldberg-Polin with a healed arm. It was blown off from the elbow down on the day he was abducted.
In the video the hostages discuss Passover, their memories of last year’s seder and their love for their families. Siegel, when discussing his family on camera, breaks down into tears, lowering his head onto his knees.
Miran’s father made an emotional plea at a rally, urging Hamas to show humanity and the Israeli government to approve any feasible deal promptly.
Their families approved the video’s publication, indicating a desperate appeal for action. Meanwhile, the Hostage Families Forum emphasized the need for the government to secure a deal before Independence Day, stressing the urgency for both the living hostages’ rehabilitation and the dignified burial of the deceased. Another group demanded a stark choice between ending the war or returning the hostages, putting pressure on Israeli leaders to prioritize their decision-making.
As talks over a potential hostage deal continue, Foreign Minister Israel Katz suggested that Israel would delay a planned offensive in Rafah if an agreement was reached. However, hardline coalition leaders threatened to withdraw support if the offensive was called off, complicating the political landscape. Despite these challenges, there is growing momentum for a deal, with opposition leader Yair Lapid pledging support to approve a deal and bring the hostages home. Negotiations between Israel and Hamas are ongoing. 133 hostages remain in Gaza today.
