Reservist killed as troops push through Khan Younis complex amid fading truce hopes
Sunday, the IDF announced the death of 29-year-old Michal Gal, a reservist killed while fighting in southern Gaza. The Jerusalem native was buried on Mount Herzl that evening. This brings the toll of IDF soldiers killed in the ground offensive up to 249. Friday, 43-year-old Amishar Ben David was killed in Khan Younis and also buried on Mount Herzl on Sunday. Ben David is the cousin of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who attended his funeral. These deaths come at a time of intense fighting in Hamad Town, a modern apartment complex in Khan Younis. The IDF reports that the Maglan commando unit has raided apartments used by Hamas, seized weapons, and even got two Hamas operatives to surrender to the troops. The IDF also says they killed four Hamas terrorists with an attack helicopter on Sunday.
