The immigrant community here in israel… as well as the entire nation is mourning the loss of Sergeant Rose Ida Lubin.
She was a 20-year-old Border Police officer, who was tragically killed in a stabbing attack outside Jerusalem’s Old City while on duty. Thousands gathered for her funeral at Mount Herzl National Cemetery. Lubin, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, immigrated to Israel in 2021 and joined the Border Police as a lone soldier in 2022. She was praised for her bravery during the attack, with a fellow officer stating she fought valiantly to prevent a potentially larger terror attack. An officer was subsequently removed from duty due to a disciplinary and operational failure related to Lubin’s death. Her funeral was attended by thousands of people. Lubin told her family and friends from a very young age that she would go to israel as soon as she could. She became a lone soldier, leaving her family behind and joining the border police force as soon as she could. Sergeant Rose Ida Lubin, a 20-year-old Border Police officer, was tragically killed in a stabbing attack outside Jerusalem’s Old City while on duty. On october 7th Lubin was with her adopted israeli family near the gaza border with them for shabbat and the holiday. Terrorists attempted to breach the kibbutz where she was staying. Lubin picked up her weapon and joined the battle. She was asked to put on a uniform so she could be identified as part of the official team who had been working to defend the community that day.
She fought until she had to return to Jerusalem and rejoin the Border Police. Many funeral goers including her Israeli adoptive family said they had worn bright colored shirts in her honor because she loved to wear colors. Notice these photos of Ms. Rose Lubin. She had a beautiful, authentic smile.
