Thursday night June 6th, the Israel Daily News hosted its first ever live event in New York City.
It included a live broadcast of the Israel Daily News podcast with a studio audience, followed by a panel of strong leaders who are making a change for Israel and the Jewish people. The event, hosted by Journalist and IDN founder Shanna Fuld, culminated with an exciting performance and a live violin performance of Hatikvah.
Panelists shared a united sentiment that anti-Israel sentiment is antisemitism.
Rabbi Avrohom Richter joined the panel. Born in Chicago in 1978, he attended and graduated Chabad Yeshivos around the world including France, Israel and 770 Lubavitch world headquarters. He is married to Zeldi Richter (the most fashionable woman in Queens) and together they run Chabad of Howard Beach Queens. He also serves as a Prison Chaplain for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Richter uplifted the crowd by reminding the audience of all the times in history the Jewish people prevailed.
Sarri Singer, the Founder and director of Strength to Strength, a nonprofit dedicated to healing from terror attacks around the globe survived a 2003 Palestinian terror attack in Israel. This propelled her to work with victims of terror from around the world. She says when she came back to the US, people tried to deny her of her experience, suggesting because the bus bombing happened in Israel, it could not be considered true terror.
Sarah Williamson, an acclaimed Australian journalist now based in New York, specializes in conflict reporting, foreign policy, and geopolitics. After spending five years working in Israel, she has extensive knowledge of the Israel-Palestinian conflict, reporting from multiple fronts, including Gaza and the West Bank. Sarah is recognized for consistently delivering frontline reports from global hotspots including the war in Ukraine. She is a proud Zionist and actively combats antisemitism and anti-Israel bias.
Covering protests at Colombia University, Williamson shared how difficult it can be to get young Jewish students to open up to her when she’s in her journalist role. She says it’s a blatant example of how tense and scary the New York climate is for Jewish people today.
To conclude the show, just as any podcast would conclude, there was a performance from a musician. World-renowned musician Ben Sher did a rendition of Hatikvah (Israel’s National Anthem) on the violin.
