Israel says 322 aid trucks entered Gaza on Sunday, highest number since war started
Sunday, 322 aid trucks entered Gaza, which the Defense Ministry reports as the highest number in one day since the start of the war. The Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories, or COGAT, says the boost of aid is likely due to the ever growing international pressure on Israel to improve the humanitarian situation. Also on Sunday, Defense Minister Yoav Galland and US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew toured the IDF’s new Humanitarian Coordination and Deconfliction Cell. In a statement, the Defense Ministry said that the cell “enables key partners to work closely in order to facilitate the delivery of aid in a manner that will enable the IDF to continue operating against Hamas terrorism, while also ensuring the security of aid workers.”
Israel has also decided to take immediate steps to improve the conditions in Gaza after the World Central Kitchen Strike last week, in which the IDF mistakenly killed seven aid workers. This includes temporarily opening the Ashdod port for humanitarian deliveries, opening the Erez crossing in northern Gaza, and increasing the amount of aid from Jordan along the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Gaza.
