Four soldiers killed fighting in southern Gaza as war on Hamas hits six-month mark
Sunday, the Israeli Defense Forces announced the deaths of four soldiers fighting in southern Gaza the day before. They are 21-year-old captain Ido Baruch from Tel Mond, 20-year-old sergeant Amitai Even Shoshan from Azri’el, 20-year-old sergeant Ilai Zair from Kedar, and 20-year-old Reef Harush from Kibbutz Ramat David. This brings the number of troops killed in the Gaza ground offensive up to 260.
The four soldiers were killed when Hamas gunmen emerged from a tunnel in a destroyed building and began to open fire. Also on Saturday, two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded while in central Gaza by a tank shell that exploded inside their vehicle.
