Monday evening, New Hope chair Gideon Sa’ar announced his four-seat party’s departure from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s coalition, after his demands to enter the high-level war cabinet were not met.
This is just two weeks after dissolving his political alliance with opposition leader Benny Gantz. Sa’ar, who says his party set aside disagreements with Netanyahu following October 7th, is now saying that the government has failed to achieve its war aims with Gaza. He claims he has left due to feeling unable to influence action on the conflict. The coalition now shrinks from 76 to 72 out of the 120 seats in the Knesset. This doesn’t pose a threat to its stability, but it may influence Gantz to leave the emergency government as well.
