Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 around 11:30 am, three crewmembers on a cargo ship were killed and at least four others were injured by a Houthi missile attack. The Iran-backed terrorist group from Yemen aimed the missiles toward the marine vessel “True Confidence,” which is a Barbados flagged and Liberian owned bulk carrier.
The ship was in the Gulf of Aden when it was attacked with significant damage, forcing all crewmembers to abandon it. Three of the injured crew members are in critical condition.
US Central Command, or CENTCOM, says that this is the fifth anti-ship ballistic missile fired by the Houthis in the past two days. The Houthis take responsibility for the attack on True Confidence, claiming that the ship’s crew ignored warning messages from the terrorist group. CENTCOM says, “These reckless attacks by the Houthis have disrupted global trade and taken the lives of international seafarers,” end quote. Still, the Houthis say they will not stop their attacks until the war in Gaza ends, as a display of solidarity with Palestinians.
Early Thursday, CENTCOM announced that they conducted strikes against two unmanned aerial vehicles in a Houthi-controlled part of Yemen that seemed to be a threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the area.
