In a massive bombshell ruling Thursday, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. The three judges in the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I ruled on the warrants unanimously on charges for crimes against humanity and war crimes. This is the first time in history that the ICC has issued warrants against two leaders of a democratic country, and if found liable for these crimes, they would face arrest in more than 120 countries, prompting them into further isolation. The Prime Minister’s Office called the decision anti-Semitic and compared the move to the Dreyfus Trial. In the past, the ICC issued warrants against Hamas leaders Muhammad Dief, Ismail Haniyeh, and Yahiyah Sinwar, all of which have been eliminated since. The PMO said that the court’s decision would not undermine Israel from protecting its citizens.
However, the court said he can continue to fly to the US “because there, there is no problem.”
The initial request for warrants was made on May 20, 2024 and has been ongoing for 5-6 months.
