The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon’s Ayta ash-Shab, working to diminish the terror group’s presence. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant states that half of Hezbollah’s commanders in southern Lebanon have been eliminated, with the remaining half forced to hide from IDF operations.
Gallant emphasized the goal of allowing thousands of Israelis displaced by Hezbollah’s persistent attacks to go back home to their houses. The strikes, involving fighter jets and artillery, targeted around 40 Hezbollah sites, including weapon depots. This follows Hezbollah’s anti-tank missile attack on a northern Israeli community.
The IDF says the strikes aimed to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure along the border and were not retaliatory. Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel, occurring almost daily since October, have resulted in casualties on both sides, with Israel warning of further escalation if Hezbollah persists. Tens of thousands of Israelis from northern border communities have been evacuated from their homes since the beginning of war.
Hezbollah has publicly identified 287 members who have been killed by Israel. Most are in Lebanon but some are in Syria. 54 members of other terror groups in Lebanon have been killed along with a Lebanese soldier, and 60 civilians. Three of them were journalists.
Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, the U.S. Senate passed a $95 billion budget for war aid which will be funneled into Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.
