Personal story:
I had just walked in the door from being in an underground parking lot taking shelter. This is the first thing I did – I came to write my experience. I had been meeting a friend, Erika Krall, who frequently appears in this show as she is a talented russian israeli dj. You’ll hear her work at the end of this show.
She and I were having what I considered a last hoorah dinner because I understood there would be a missile attack from iran. But I just was not sure when it would hit. It hit sooner than I expected. By 7:30 pm as we were anxiously getting the check, we departed. But only for a moment. Erika started screaming my name and I came to her. She told me she had gotten an alert on her phone from the home front command. I, on the other hand, was entering social media on my walk in an effort to make a news update. She and I ran into an apartment building and followed a small crowd that went downstairs into the underground parking, which was a safety zone. There was a young woman crying on the phone with her mother. We were told that unlike other siren alerts where we stay in shelter for ten minutes, that we needed to stay until we were told to leave.
During this time, Iran published information that said they were sending 400 rockets into Israel . The IDF says there were 181 that entered Israeli air space.
The News:
Iran launched this significant aerial assault on Israel on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. One fatality was reported when rocket fragments struck Jericho. It reportedly killed a Palestinian man. The biggest barrage seems to have hit and even damaged buildings in Tel Aviv, Tel Sheva, and a school in Gedera. The IDF announced plans for retaliatory action across the Middle East later in the night.
Israel’s air defense systems intercepted many of the missiles, while several others hit various cities. Israeli citizens ran for shelter, and air travel, and operations at Ben Gurion Airport, were temporarily halted, with reports that some planes were redirected. Jordan and Iraq also closed their airspace.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the assault, stating it was in retaliation for the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. We covered this extensively in Monday’s Israel daily news podcast. The Iranian regime warns of further action if Israel responds militarily.
Meanwhile, loads of reservists were called up for duty today and yesterday in Israel’s north, with their wives and families worried. People here in Israel are rapidly changing their plans for rosh hashana, the jewish new year, in an effort to be somewhere they feel is safe.
Both Israeli and U.S. officials confirmed that the United States is supporting Israel in its defense. The IDF, prepared for further escalation, reaffirmed its readiness to respond, with the backing of U.S. CENTCOM. The U.S. also deployed an aircraft carrier to the region as a deterrent to further Iranian aggression.
We also have news that doesn’t have a lot of information around it. That is that the police have issued a correction after Magen David Adom emergency services released figures about the death count in a Jaffa terror attack. The police confirm that six were murdered in this horrific attack in Jaffa, with nine injured with varying degrees of injury.
Two terrorists who started a killing spree on the light rail in Jaffa continued on foot on Jerusalem Boulevard (In Jaffa) and were neutralized by police officers and civilians who were there using personal pistols. I have photo and video of Arab Israelis in Jerusalem laughing and celebrating the attacks.
For more information about the general situation, you can listen to yesterday’s show and tune back in again tomorrow.
