Noa and Nir Baranes have been identified as the victims of Tuesday’s Hezbollah rocket attack on the Golan Heights.
The couple, both 46 years old and from Kibbutz Ortal, leave behind their three children. They were killed when a Hezbollah rocket made a direct impact on their car near the Nafah Junction, just south of their hometown.
The Golan Regional Council, where the couple resided in Kibbutz Ortal, are sharing their sorrow over the loss. The council made a statement saying “A heavy burden fell on Kibbutz Ortal. Noa and Nir Baranes, central and beloved members of our community, were killed by a direct hit to their vehicle.”
First responders arrived at the scene of the rocket attack, which hit the couple’s car in Israel’s North on July 9, 2024. The barrage was part of a heavy rocket attack by Hezbollah.
Noa and Nir had been members of Kibbutz Ortal since 2012. Nir managed the poultry branch and previously led the tourism and culture branch. Noa served as the secretary of the plantation branch. Their children are 13, 16, and 18 years old. The community mourns the loss of this devoted couple, who played vital roles in the kibbutz.
We here at the Israel Daily News send our condolences to the children, family, friends and community who are in mourning right now. We hope they find a way to have peace moving forward.
