Ashdod, a major city in Israel’s south witnessed a surprising escalation during wartime. Hamas claimed responsibility for firing eight rockets toward the city … which is a pretty significant event. This marks the first rocket attack on Ashdod in two months.
Of these, two were intercepted, and the rest fell in open areas, luckily causing no casualties. The attack originated from central Gaza… which is an area that has not seen any IDF action as of yet.
Rockets were last fired at Ashdod on January 14, 2024. Gaza is around 25 kilometers from Ashdod.
The IDF reports Israel Air Force fighter jets destroyed the post where the original rocket fire came from. They also say the strike was precise in order to avoid civilian casualties. Explosions occurred after the strike, indicating to the IDF there were weapons in the area.
Channel 12 reports more than 11,500 rockets have been launched at Israel since the start of war on October 7th, 2023.
